Finals Day
Well, that was a Finals Day to remember!
With fourteen members competing in eight different competitions everything was looking set for a great day of bowling.
The day started with blue skies and a couple of very tight games. As the afternoon progressed, dark clouds gathered, and the rumble of thunder could be heard in the distance. Eventually, the rain arrived quickly followed by thunder and lightning and we forced to take shelter. Many of you will remember how bad things got on the day of the Stone Crown Challenge - this was much worse! At one point it looked as if we might have to abandon play altogether.
Fortunately, there was a brief break in the rain, and after some sweeping of the green, the last three games were resumed.
Unfortunately, the rain soon returned but as the thunder had moved on and play continued in increasingly challenging conditions – but we got there.
To add to the challenges of the day, the storm took out the power to the club house and so presentations were made in the fading light before we settled down to a candle lit fish & chip supper.
Thanks to everyone who helped run the day, to those who came to support and to everyone for their fortitude, flexibility and for the great spirit with which everyone faced the challenges of the afternoon.
Finally, CONGRATULATIONS to all our finalists who all played some very entertaining matches.
